In 1895 Lord Brassey of Normanhurst Court, Catsfield executed a Deed of Gift to the Parish Council of The Reading Room for the use of the inhabitants of Catsfield as a reading and recreation room.  This Reading Room has been the focus of village life ever since.

In 1991 the building was registered as a Charity under no: 1001062. The
Parish Council are the Custodian Trustees, but the day-to-day running of the Hall is in the hands of the Managing Trustees – Catsfield Village Hall
Management Committee. This body consists of five trustees representing the Parish Council, Women’s Institute, Horticultural Society, Catsfield Amateur Dramatic Society and Catsfield Pre-School. There are also four elected members from the village. Every year, we hold an AGM in which these nine people are authorised to run the Hall for the period of one year.

The Village Hall now consists of an upstairs Snooker Room which is available for hire and has a full size snooker table which is kept immaculately. Also upstairs there is an Archive Room run by the Catsfield History Group, which doubles as the Parish Council Office. Downstairs is a stage, large Hall suitable for dancing, meetings, games etc, a modern kitchen, disabled toilet and other toilets, chair store and a small Committee Room available for separate hire.

Adjacent and connecting to the Hall is Hermon Cottage, a converted building in which the Hall caretaker and large family used to live. This building is self contained and available for separate hire with a small kitchen and room for meetings, with a toilet. There is a small garden with a flower bed adding to the view of the building.

We are very proud of our Hall, it has been loved, extended, modernised and cared for since 1895 and we trust we have fulfilled the objects of our benefactor Lord Brassey.
